Thoughts about the film „You have never been here”

“You have never been here”-this is the new film by Lynn Ramsey (“Something wrong with Kevin”), which critics have already managed to call the “taxi driver” of the 21st century. And all this has nothing to do with what I will write about now, because, unfortunately or happiness, neither the “taxi driver”, nor “something wrong with Kevin” I have not yet looked. And this is intentionally from a unit, because I am interested in considering the work “Out-to-Cast”, without connecting it with some other films.

If you suddenly opened this post for some reason to understand or not to watch a movie, then here’s a short presentation: go and see! Without reading about this film, despite the trailers, just go and look at a clean look, this is the case when the less you know about the work, the better.

I was lucky to attend a prevalized show, after which the film was discussed, and, in my opinion, one of the mistakes in the perception of the tape that I saw in matters of many spectators is a view of it as a kind of puzzle that requires a “decoding”. And, they say, when all the pieces will be collected together, when each fragment from the past of the hero takes his own chronological order-then the film will be opened.

In general, my favorite comment on https://casino-goldenbet.uk/ this film: “I ***** did not understand, but I felt.”And in this, it seems to me, there is the whole point, why, in principle, watch such a movie. Well, fold all these pieces from the past in the correct order, arrange Timline-you will not get anything but moral satisfaction, since the core story, in my opinion, is very simple in the film and look for some “keys” in it and somehow I see no reason. For me, the „meat” of the film lies in the area of feelings and associations that it causes.

I perceive the same shots with memories from the past, rather, not like flashbacks in the classical sense, but rather, as an attempt to convey the features of human thinking through the image. In reality, after all, there is no such thing as “flashbacks” and “retrospect”-mainly life occurs as a continuous stream, in which our associations are wedged from time to time with the fact that once and the indispensable feeling of deja. We may not even remember the entire event, but the sensations from certain events that were happening to us, scattered images, from them, continue to stretch behind us a train after a year.

“You have never been here” I personally perceive, rather, as a musical album in which the lyrics exists not to tell you that there is something, and it happens like this, but to turn on your imagination. An album in which the lines work like hooks on which everyone plants his own feelings and associations. The authorship of Johnny Greenwood (composer “Radiohead”), who is so inconsistent, twitched and “beating on my ears”, which she perfectly conveys how much the psyche of the main character is also contributed to the same thing.

In my understanding, “you have never been here,” just as, for example, “go and look” Klimov, dissects the consciousness that exists in the world of violence, where everything pushes the hero to the fact that he should hate, cause pain and kill all the time. But, unlike “go and look”, where we have the initially pure consciousness, not broken by the horrors of war, in “you have never been here” a hero is shown at a time when he has existed in this for decades. His consciousness is already devastated, there was neither rage nor anger, but there is only a moral and spiritual exhaustion. So where in this scorched soil you can find what could give her a new life? The film does not so much answer us this question, how much the viewer leads to formulate the answer on his own.

Only one scene in the kitchen, where the main character shares death with a person whom he himself shot, can be disassembled for hours, finding more and more layers in it. And when the secret “i’ve Never Been to Me” plays (“I never belonged to myself”), it shows that this scene is not about two thugs after a shootout, but about two people with conquered fate that turned out to be instruments of someone else’s dark will.

Most likely, this was not done intentionally, but, in my opinion, this film turned out to be the perfect cast of our time. The time when from both ends of the Earth in the media, in the speeches of politicians, in propaganda and even in the cultural sphere, annual nervous tension, aggression, intolerance, cult of power, readiness for war are broadcast. There is a large and frightening game on the nerves and psyche of people, pursuing known to the goals alone. And this film seems to say to us: „Get playing out”. Especially when real blood flows instead of imaginary blood.

At one time, Ele Klimov called “go and look” “a prayer for peace”. „You have never been here” I would call „a prayer for humanity”. I believe that in half a century this film will become a cult classic, for me this is a fact. In the meantime, back in 2018, such a movie needs to be watched in order to witness what is happening in the world of cinema and to understand what is, in principle, cinema.
